Personality: To the outside observer Misfit’s defining trait would be her passion and gung-ho attitude. Part of this comes from her young age, like most teenagers she thinks she knows the world better than anyone else. She often becomes so involved in her own ideas that she takes other’s agreement with them for granted. This cockiness leads to a lot of trouble with her teammates as it makes it hard to predict what she will do. This makes her appear a bit unreliable. Due to her confidence and powers she is very reckless. When an idea pops into her head she acts on it without thinking through the consequences. Misfit would probably be dead multiple times over if not for her healing powers. Due to her stubbornness she ignores this fact and continues to charge head first into any conflict she can find. Misfit’s passion is also what makes her a good hero. She truly believes that she can be a force for good in the world and wants to help everyone she meets. Unlike some of her colleagues, Misfit is not jaded and thinks that the world is ultimately a good place.

Misfit’s attitude toward life is that of a confident bubbly teenage girl. Even for her young age Misfit is noticeably immature. She treats life like a game and treats her teammates like High School friends. This immaturity can lead to problems when she doesn’t take her life as seriously as is needed. Her immaturity is most notable when she is angry or upset. When one of her superiors calls her out on her recklessness, she tends to sulk and become moody. She is also prone to jealousy, especially when her mentor, Barbara is concerned. Whenever Barbara brings a new person into the fold Misfit views them as a threat to her position. This jealousy has led to screaming matches between Misfit and some of her teammates. Misfit’s immaturity also causes her to be naïve about her lifestyle. Misfit thinks being a superhero will be like a movie, where the good guys always win and no one dies. When one of her missions resulted in the deaths of a number of people she was devastated.

While Misfit often acts childish due to her age it is important to note that there is another reason for her often stubborn actions. Unlike most of the superheroes she associates with Misfit was not brought into the world of heroism by a mentor. She decided on her own that she was going to take the mantle of Batgirl to honor Barbara Gordon’s legacy. This means that she will go to almost any lengths to impress her elders. She especially looks up to Barbara Gordon and would do almost anything to get Barbara’s approval. Misfit lost her mother and brother to an accident in her early teens, and after living on the street for a while she came up with the idea of becoming a superhero. Unfortunately due to her lack of maturity she built the superhero life into a fantasy, thinking that if she put on a Batgirl outfit it would solve every problem in her life. She does not have a firm grasp on the dangers of the life she has chosen. Her passionate nature combined with her need to impress others, and her glorification of the superhero life causes her recklessness in battle. Misfit thinks that if she can handle herself well enough she will earn the respect she feels she deserves and all her problems will be solved.

Third-Person Sample:

Misfit leaped off of the fire escape and onto the roof. Normally she would have just bounced up, but this world seemed to have sapped her powers. Luckily it hadn’t left her empty handed, she’d gotten all sorts of new magical spells to fill that empty spot in her heart. Plus the bright red hat that came with them was growing on her.

She paused to catch her breath as she approached the edge of the roof. This world didn’t have much street crime, but going out on a nightly patrol always made her feel like a real hero. After all Batman did it, Barbara did it, so shouldn’t she do it too? She looked out over the town, trying to spot anything amiss. She didn’t expect to see anything, this place was more about monsters and knights than muggers and gangsters. Movement in the distance caught her eye, someone was walking into an alleyway, and if she wasn’t mistake they were being followed.

It turned out that the woman’s follower had only been one of those darned moogles trying to give her a letter. When Misfit had jumped out both of them had looked at her like she was some sort of crazy person. After that debacle she ready to call it a night. A bubble bath back at her place sounded like a good way to let off some steam. As she walked towards home she hoped that one day there would be a crisis that she knew how to deal with. Then she’d show everyone how awesome she was.
